Rainbow Carrots and Watermelon ~ highlights from our garden this week

It was finally time to harvest our watermelon.  My 5 year old daughter has been tenderly watching over her watermelon plant all summer, watering it and making sure it is well cared for.  She even goes out and “pets” her baby watermelon and talks to it so it won’t be sad (since it is the only watermelon in the garden). So I was not sure how she would feel  about eating it…. well she was more than happy to cut it from the vine and go inside in EAT IT ALL UP.  Totally made me smile.  She is ready to grow another for next year!

We also have been harvesting our carrots, we planted rainbow carrots and they are fun to see the BOLD and beautiful colors! I planted them to close together so some of them came up in HUGE carrot clumps.  I am not sure if that is also what made them so twisted as well? Anyone know a trick to get all your carrots to grow straight?

I forgot to take a picture of our BIG pick of the week, but it looked about the same as last weeks 😉

Right now our garden is producing:

  • Carrots
  • Corn
  • Cherry Tomatoes
  • Roma Tomatoes
  • Beef steak tomatoes
  • Banana Peppers

  • Yellow Squash
