Simple Alphabet ~ Say “I Love You” With DIY Art

This Mother’s day, give Mom something from the heart that will mean so much more to her!  This gift is easy, thrifty, and handmade.  Add a beautiful frame and customize it to fit in with Mom’s decor.  Such a great gift from older kids, or for a new mom, even Grandmother’s would love it!

To begin decide on the size you want it to be.  Ours is a 5×7.

You will need

Cardstock or scrabook paper (1 color for the back, 1 for the letters, and 1 more for the “I heart you”

Scissors

Glue sticks

Once you have your size decided, you can open up a blank document in that size in any program.  Word works great. Now, if you want it to be 1 dimensional, depending on your program, you may be able to just create it exactly how you want it and print it off and be done.  I did mine with my trusty, favorite craft tool ever, my Silhouette and cut my letters out with black, textured card stock for depth.  I haven’t tried to just do it as a printable, so I am going off of what worked for me.

Choose a simple, easy to read font and type your alphabet.  I am assuming if you made it this far in the post you know your alphabet. 😉  In place of an O, use a heart shape.  (I know that in Microsoft Office programs you can find one up in the insert shapes tab). Instead of leaving it all the same color, change the I, heart and U to a different color.  It is hard to see, but I used hot pink.

Now, if you want it to be more dimensional, you can just print in either your desired color of ink, and then cut each letter out if you don’t have a craft cutter.  Or you can print outline only onto the desired color of cardstock.  It is a little monotonous to have to cut each letter out by hand, but the end result will be a beautiful gift for any mother in your life!
