About Us
I am a stay at home mom with four wonderful kids. I have been married for over 10 years to my best friend. I am head over heels in love with him. He always supports my crazy "thrifty adventures". We have a lot of fun together.
I was raised on a small dairy farm. Where I learned very young, the value of hard work and how to be thrifty in all areas of life. Growing up our meals were made from scratch. Only on special occasion would we get name brand cereal, chips, or any other fancy treats. Now that I am a Mom with my own budget, the basic foods always comes first. I too make most of our meals from scratch and take pride in feeding my family a well balanced healthy diet.
I enjoy seeing how far I can make our budget stretch, and when I take the time to match sales with coupons I am able to get all those "fun & fancy" items that would other wise be out of my budget. Being thrifty has always been a way of life for me, but it has also become a real joy.

Ahhh! That’s a great 2-tone (or is that 3 different colors?!!) toilet! We just bought a house from the 70′s too and are remodeling it all at once after finding mold in multiple places (we originally thought we’d slowly update things over the years, but the whole mold thing spurred a change of plans) but we’re saving thousands of $$$ by doing the work ourselves! We’re attempting a green remodel – here is a link to my post about that if you want to see some of the materials we’re using! http://bringingbasicsback.blogspot.com/2009/11/saving-thousands-on-our-green-remodel.html
Yeah for new toilets! Don’t it make you feel good…even if it is a toilet!
Looks good. Even the floor looks newer! you are going to have the cutest house then I will be green.
LOL…Sarah..! You are a dork of the sweetest kind!
our city did a “rebate” kind of thing for the newer toilets where the water company did when you swithced over to the new water saving toilets, we didn’t know about it so when we replaced ours we didn’t get on the deal and found out later. Make sure you check to see if your water company has a deal like that (I think it was $75 per toilet rebate)
Yasmin…. we tried to fix it a few times but it leaked….and it was so old they do not make parts for it anymore. It was filling our septic tank up with water so we had to replace the whole thing….my mom said the same thing as you!
I felt the same way about painting my teeny tiny guest bathroom from a dark beige (which made it look smaller than it is) to a nice, light parchment color. It’s the small victories that light up our days.
Call me crazy but I like the old one better. Not because it’s nicer looking, which it’s not, but because it most likely flushes better and holds more water. I HATE new toilets simply because the bowl practically holds no water. Yuk.
