. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Johnson family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Tammie and Josh Ashby this is the 230th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this next family in a village on the outskirts of Uyo, Nigeria. They were introduced to us by their village chief. Mrs Johnson is a widow and has 4 kids. They live in a small one bedroom mudhouse that has no plumbing or electricity. To get water they walk a long distance to a stream and then carry the water back in little pots so they can fill up a bigger container in their home. This is part of their childrens daily chores, walking a few miles each way. As well as helping farm.

The Johnsons cannot afford to build a kitchen and they cook in the open with the help of a metal tripod and some firewood. This is all they can afford and when its rainy season, they cook inside their home even with the smoke from the fire. This covers their walls and ceiling with heavy soot.

Since Mr Johnson passed away, Mrs Johnson has been working extra hard to support her family. She became a farmer and harvests cassava and she sells them at the local market. This is the families only source of income. Some years the harvest is not enough to sell, other years they have extra and are able to both eat and sell their harvest.

We really enjoyed visiting this family and even though they were not expecting us, they welcomed us very warmly and were astounded by the bag of Rice. They expressed their thanks and appreciation to those who donated this bag of Rice to them. Due to the pandemic lockdown, markets have been shut down and families like this have been in dire need of food and this gift was very, very warmly received way more than I can be able to express. I hope you can feel of their gratitude and prayers they offered in thanks to those who were so generous to share with them.
