. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Okuku family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Ashley White this is the 237th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met Mr Okuku in a village just outside of Uyo, Nigeria. He was recommended to us by his village chief. Mr Okuku lives alone in a one bedroom mud house. He is a widower and he has 5 kids. For some reason it was hard to locate where The Okukus stay but we eventually found it after 45 minutes of driving around and asking questions.

After we greeted him, we asked him to show us his kitchen and he took us to the back of his house where he just cooks just against the wall. He uses sticks and you can see how black his pots are and where he cooks is. Mr Okuku is a farmer and he grows cassava, which he then sells to so he can get money to feed.

It turns out that Mr Okuku has been living alone and he says that his kids no longer come home to visit him. He finds it hard to find work so he can eat and ends up begging for alms most of the time. People who escorted us were even surprised when they discovered how far he lived away from everybody. Mr Okuku was appreciative for the bag of Rice and expressed this thanks to those who donated to him and his family.
