. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the George family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to “A group of men in North Pole, Alaska, purchased these bags in honor of their wives and mothers for Mother’s Day.” This is the 311th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met Mrs. Alice Monday George. The 45 year old widow lost her husband a year back and since then, a lot has changed for the worse. Before, her husband’s demise, he was a successful fisherman, who supplies fishes to retail market traders. Since this misfortune happened, she started trading, where she deals on Periwinkles. Periwinkle happens to be one of the favourite in this region, especially in the preparation of one of their most popular soups Afang. However, the business doesn’t bring much to the table because almost everyone sells Periwinkle while some can even fetch it by themselves.

She is a great example of the strength of a mother. In her own grief moving forward to ensure her children will survive, but the journey has not been easy.

She said she finds it difficult fending for the 4 kids her husband left behind, this situation has caused the children to temporarily stop schooling. She lives in her late husband’s house, which was originally mud, but has now been patched with cement. She cooks next to their structure with a metal mount stand upheld by dry woods to make fire. They get kindling from closeby bushes.

She entertained us with water, when we presented a bag of rice to her family, she was brimming with much appreciation, quickly, she busted into songs, praising God for remembering her family through these gifts. She appealed to God for the more of these surprises.
