Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Effiong family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Joseph Callahan this is the 400th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We came across this unique family in Uyo Akwa ibom State. The live in an uncompleted building. Their room is covered with zinc roof as windows . They couldn’t afford most comfortable house furniture so the windows and doors were patched with rusty zincs and broken woods. Due to the rural environment, there is no available light or water supply. The Effiongs have 4 kids.
We were received by this young family of Mr Williams Ime Effiong and his lovely wife Gloria and her four beautiful children. Mr Williams is a fabricator at the local industry and his wife is a student in the tertiary institution . They try as much as possible to provide for their family. Their cooking space is located outside the bushes fenced with palm leaves. They use firewood to prepare most of their meals. They are usually assisted by their children in the kitchen. They usually go out to fetch water because there is no constant flow of water in their home.
Their children and their neighbors were very happy to receive this gift and all the neighborhood kids joined in their family picture. The children where excited about the unexpected visitors that brought rice and wanted to join the festivities. The Effiongs were delighted to receive this gift and were very grateful to the people that donated it this will help them feed their children for months to come. You could see the relief and joy it brought this family, knowing a daily meal will be easier in the coming months.
