Bag of Rice Project #44 -A visit to the Arua family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Arua family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Melissa Coy and Ashley Ecker Family this is the 44th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

This family was recommend to us by their church leader. They live in the outskirts of Aba in a two bedroom bungalow house with other families. The Aruas have 4 kids but due to their inability to raise their kids themselves the kids have all left Aba to live with other people. They cook inside their home because they don’t have a space or corner to cook their meals. Mr Arua is a retired teacher who has taught in a government school for more than 30 years but he has not been paid pension because of corruption in the government. So his family has greatly suffered because of that. His wife Mrs Mary has taken up trading to try and support the family and she sells fruits in a local market.

The Aruas are a humble family, Mr Arua received us well and when we told him of why we came he was really grateful. He told us stories of how important the food will be for them. We were grateful to be of help to this wonderful family who have been done bad by situations outside their control. They prayed that those who donated to them will be blessed and we added our prayers to that.
