Bag of Rice Project #63 -A visit to the Peters family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Peters family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Cat Neiheisel – In honor of all our employees at Neiheisel Steel Corporation. This is the 63rd bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this special family through their church leader. Mrs Mercy Friday Peters is a widow with two kids. One of her kids is not living with her and working as a maid in another city. She lives in a one room apartment with her son Destiny. They share the utilities like toilets and bathroom with other tenants.

Mrs Peters is a farmer and she trades produce from her farm at the market. Since it is not farming season, she has been finding it hard to take care of her family. They cook with firewood outside their house and during raining season they cook with kerosene stove which they could bring the house.

This family has faced so many difficult times and Mrs Peters and her family has gone through many times without food. When we met the family and told them why we came and what we brought for them, she was very happy and told us that they do not have food to eat that evening and that the rice came at the right time. I was happy that we were guided to the family and knew that God guided us tot his family. Mrs Peters extended her thanks to those who donated and prayed that their pockets will be refilled.
