DIY Nativity Christmas Ornament

I am sure that most of us have seen the large version of this nativity craft.  I have loved it and had it pinned for years.  But I never got around to making it.  Then I decided that it would be so adorable on a much smaller scale as an ornament!

So here is what you need:

A square wooden dowel

2 large wood balls

1 small wood ball

I wish I knew where to find these great little rectangle pieces.  I got them at a little, local craft store.  They are about an inch and a half long and have jagged ends, which I loved!  I am sure you could find some thin, small rectangles that would also work great!

Craft paint 3 colors plus skin colored

Brushes

hot glue gun and stick

Begin by cutting small sections off of your dowel.  I cut one 3 inches long and another one 2.5 inches long.  Then sand the cut ends so they are smooth.  Clean off any dust and paint your choice of color.  Once you have them painted, including the balls for the heads, it is time to hot glue them together.  Glue the 2 large round balls onto the dowel ends.  Glue the small one onto the wooden rectangle.  This will be the baby Jesus.

Now that you have those glued together, it is time to add Mary’s cloak.  I kept mine with a rough edge to give it an aged look.  Wrap that around and add a dot of hot glue to attach it to her head, and again to her chest.  Once it is glued on, you are going to attach baby Jesus to the front of them.

This will keep them attached together.  Scoot them close and press down the baby Jesus to make sure it is attached firmly.  Now you are ready to attach something to hang the ornament.  I chose to use bakers twine because I love it.  I tied a knot in a small section and then glued it to the back of their heads.  I also wrapped a section around all three figures for decorative purposes.

I love the way it turned out, and I think it will be my all time favorite ornament!
