DIY Paint Splattered Denim Shorts, Great Kids Craft!

Looking for a fun summertime craft for the kids?  Do you have  an old pair of jeans that have seen better days but that still fit? Let your kids personalize them with some fabric paint splatters in their favorite colors!  Now you have something they can wear to display their handi-work!

You will need:

Jeans or shorts

Fabric paint

Old tooth brush and/or paint brush

Scissors (for cutting your jeans into shorts)

Newspaper to lay the denim on during splattering

Paper plate for the paint

Begin by cutting off your jeans if you are wanting to make shorts.  We left ours a little long so that they can be rolled up.

Now lay on a section of newspaper and take it outside.  Make sure your child is wearing old clothing  just in case they get some on themselves!

Dip your brush into the paint.  If you are using the toothbrush, you can rub your finger along the bristles for small splatters.  If using a paint brush, simply flick your wrist holding the brush several inches above the denim.

My daughter used pink, white, light blue and some yellow.  She just dried the brush off on the denim we cut off of the legs so that she wasn’t mixing colors in between.  That just went in the garbage so it was perfect!

Be sure to give these plenty of time to dry without being played with!  Lay on a flat surface somewhere cool.  We used the kitchen table over night and it was perfect!  She  chose not to do the backside of hers, but if you want to do both sides, you will want to make sure they are completely dry before you do the second side.

Chances are you have some worn out pants that have been thrown aside for the hot summer months.  Why not cut them off and let your child add some personality to them?
