Reward program for kids

So are you looking for a way to liven up your chore charts for your kids or help them learn the value of a dollar?

A friend of mine was turned onto this site to print out ‘Family named $” with a picture her family and use it to ‘pay’ her children.

She printed this so that it would fit on 3×5 cards, she also keeps all the kids’ money indexed in a card file.

I think it’s rather innovative.

The kids earn this ‘money’  for their chores being done, help with the little ones, babysitting, picking up extra chores throughout the week or to (I like this one!)buy back their possessions they have left laying around that she had to pick up.

The kids can redeem their ‘money’ for items; I must say here that the kids are limited to 2 edible items from the store weekly, in her ‘store’ (which opens once a week right after “payday”). The items in her ‘store’ are things her kids don’t normally get such as:

  • TV time
  • extra video game time (she limits this daily)
  • candy (she is getting this through couponing!)
  • soda
  • little toys
  • fruit snacks (she is getting this through couponing)
  • or the kids’ “mommy had to pick it up” possessions

These kids can save their money for bigger prizes like extra individual dates with their parents, video games, or other bigger purchases that would normally wait until birthdays or such, and their parents match their efforts.

Now this ‘family’ money is highly inflated so that maybe a candy bar that in the real world (well without coupon real world) that would cost $.50 would cost maybe $10.00.

You can really do whatever you feel is best for your family. She has reported that she has learned who are the spenders and the savers and that it took her kids about 2 weeks of really doing without things their ceased possessions like book bags to carry their school stuff in, going to school in church shoes or other than their normal shoes and she now doesn’t have to even remind them to pick up their things!

Now that would be worth it!
