Tips to Save Water

One of the household expenses that many of us neglect to save on is water. We must have water to survive, but we are using too much &needlessly and wasting money as a result. We know we should turn off the water while we brush our teeth, but there are also other ways to cut back on our water usage that you might now think about:

  • Only flush the toilet when you use it. Don’t use it as a trash can & flush unnecessarily. Sounds simple, but how many times have you used a piece of toilet paper for something other than “business,” toss it in the commode & flush. It happens more often than you think. Each flush is costing you money!
  • Wash laundry with the least amount of water necessary. If you have delicates to do, like bras, consider washing them in the sink by hand. It will extend the life of your bra & save you money!
  • Avoid rinsing dishes prior to placing them in the dishwasher. There are some times when you need to scrape heavy food particles off, I get that, but if you had a bowl of jello, you don’t need to rinse it before putting it in the dishwasher!
  • Waiting for water to heat up? Place a bowl or watering can underneath so you can use that water for your flowers, plants, garden, instead of having it needlessly go down the drain. Would you throw coins aways? That is what you are doing if you are letting water go without any purpose!
  • Use a rain barrel. Rain is free water & perfect for your garden!
