Thanks to Bev for Passing this info along,
The Nampa School District is offering free breakfast and lunch for kids ages 1 through 18. Breakfast is from 8:00 to 8:30 a.m. and lunch is from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.There are various locations serving the meals including ParkRidge Elementary, Sherman Elementary, East Valley M.S., West M.S., and Columbia H.S.
We went today, and the lunch was great…kids loved it! The cook told me they only had 5 kids come for lunch and wants us to spread the word so the food doesn’t go to waste. There is no income restriction on who gets lunch…anyone is welcome. Let your friends know about this great FREE service!
I know that Caldwell and Boise do this as well….but I do not know the times or locations.

I read about this last year in the newspaper and it said it was for low income families, but that they did not have income restrictions or ask any questions.

Boise School District does this program as well. http://www.boiseschools.org/food/summer.html Go to this link to view the information. It is a great program and with so many people needing help in these tough economic times, please encourage your friends and family members who may need it to take advantage of these opportunities.

I think that these programs are great regardless of income or background. Last year I took my son a couple of times per week. We were not considered "low income" by H&W standards but I can guarantee you that we were struggling and barely scraping by. With only one child we were unable to qualify for any assistance. This program allowed us to shift our money to other areas in our budget. It was also nice to get out and into the parks near home. None of us can truly know someones situation just by looking at them. I am sure that that particular site adjusted the number of lunches the next day. In Caldwell, lunches are pretty much at every park and at several schools.

If you want to know about free lunch where you live call 211. All of Idaho does it and they can tell you were or who to contact to find out. actually that is the best way to find out about any programs that Idaho has for children.

Kuna School District has this program also at Reed Elementary school. Kids eat free but adults have to pay if they eat. Go to www.kunaschools.org for more info.

Rest assured, anyone can go have lunch - and I'm sure that Meridian location increased their numbers for today :) If moms want to go there to take their kids for a lunch - that's a positive thing! Lots of these kids don't have a parent with them - and what a good way to share mom with other kids, too!

I just have to give my 2 cents- this program is really for kids from low income homes that do not have access to heathly or any food for that matter. This program was not intended for moms to take their kids out for a fun lunch. The post mentions that there is no income restriction- there are many families out there that can not feed their kids - that is who the program is for. I know that the post mentioned that there were only five kids in the Nampa school who attended, however on the news last night they talked about this program and said that in Meridian they had to turn kids away. I can't imagine what it would be like to be 5 years old and not eat lunch...

Marsh Valley and Pocatello School districts also do the free lunch program.

Meridian also has free lunches for kids - Tully Park is one location - I'm not sure where the others are.
