What I got for .5 cents

Before coupons or sales this would have cost $19.77

I was able to get it for .5 cents
IMG_1453Last night when I saw that the milk coupon were reset, I decided to go back to Albertsons to get in on the last day of the Doubles.  My neighbor gave me her doubles 1-5  and I did not want them to go to waste…..so like any crazy coupon shopper off I went to Albertsons at 10 pm.  I looked horrible, and of course I ran into a ton of people I knew…..even my history teacher from high school.   Why can’t I run into people when I look cute…..it is only when I look yucky.  Oh well such is life.

But I was able to use all 5 doubles and get a SUPER THRIFTY DEAL.  The sale ended last night so there is no need to go into details, but the hefty bags were free with coupons and doubles, the milk was 17 cents, the sugar was .49 cents after coupon from the koolaid, and the koolaid was $1.00.  I then used my $2.00 off coupon from the survey I took ( for details click here)  which brought my total down to  a whole .5 cents…….NOW THAT IS A THRIFTY DEAL!!!!!

My local Albertson’s wouldn’t honor the sugar coupon when I tried to use it…she said I had to buy 20 koolaids! I kept explaining to her that the coupon was not $2 off koolaid, but off sugar, but to no avail…I won’t go to that one again:-(

I have to admit, I’m very sad and jealous. I saw the Albertson’s doubles in the paper Sunday, but we left right after church to go to a family reunion and was unable to use them before we left. Let me tell you, it was HARD not using them but no time. Just got back into “civilization” tonight and of course, they are no longer valid. \
I do have a question though Sarah…one time when I was shopping and ended up with a negative subtotal (like what you have), the cashier said I needed a “filler” item to bring my subtotal up to a positive amount. With tax I would have been like you and just be at like $0.25, but the cashier couldn’t get it to process through and I ended up buying a pack of gum to get a positive subtotal. Did I do something wrong? Did the cashier just not know what to do?

Thanks!!!

Kymber…..It seems to be cashier by cashier I honestly do not know the official rule on this one

I’ve never seen you look horrible a day in my life. And I was one of the many people that saw you last night. But I know what you mean. Thanks so much for your help. It was crazy at Albertsons and you still took time to help me find the best deals and even share your coupons! My husband was impressed with all I saved. You are AWESOME! Thanks again.

How do Albertson’s doubles work? I am so jealous! My husband’s uncle lives in Eagle and I have days when I wish I could get him to buy groceries for me and then ship them back to Alabama. I shop Kroger and Publx, but I haven’t been able to get my totals down to your levels. I spent $75 at Kroger Tuesday night, but I saved $76 after coupons and sales. I thought that was great, but I’m nothing compared to what you’re doing!

Great blog, BTW! I’m on here several times a day. I cannot tell you how helpful your information has been!

Jennifer, Albertsons doubles only come out every other week or so in the ad. They will match or double any manufacturer coupon up to the value of $1.00. It make so for some Really good deals

Nice! We were there at 11 ~ sorry we missed you. Looking like slicked back rats, too, so maybe we’ll just start a new “thing”. lol. I always see people when I’m out like that, too…. there must be some law of the universe that causes that to happen.

I got 3 gals of milk, 3 hamburger helpers, and 10 Easy Macs for $2.23. Feels like there could have been something else I could have done to do even better, but when the total was $23+, being able to use the change in my wallet felt pretty good!

Would you please tell them they need to build an Albertson’s here in east Tennessee??? I have nothing! Just WM, Ingles, Food City, Food Country, Food Lion! Bleck.

I thought you were only able to use 3 doubles per transaction? Maybe I read the fine print wrong.

A Thrifty Mom July 1, 2009 at 8:34 pm

Amy they had doubles numbered 1-5 my store managers said as long as you had the numbers 1-5 you were able to use all 5 at once……

When you have a catalina (I guess you would call it that if it prints at the register but it is only for a purchase of 75 dollars or more) can you combine that with other catalina coupons?

A Thrifty Mom July 1, 2009 at 6:22 pm

Anglea, Yes I think you should be able too…..I would have to read all the details to know for sure…..hope that helps
