Bag of Rice Project #560 -A visit to the Udosen family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The following story is about the Udosen family. Their bag of rice was donated thanks to  TERRY SIMMONS, and this is the 560th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

The Udosen family was introduced to us by a friend. The family lives in Mbiaobong Itam a village in the southern part of Nigeria. When we got to the compound it was as if no one was home, when we knocked a woman came out and she offered us seat but we told her what brought us won’t allow us to sit. We told her why we came to the family and she was happy someone could donate a bag of rice to her without knowing her. The family is blessed with 3 kids and they live in a one-room apartment, the house is not in good shape as the roof of the house leaks when rain falls, she is unable to pay for electricity and she does not have light in her house. They have to go to the stream to fetch water which is not healthy because some people defecate in the water and some wash their cloth in the stream.

The family cooks outside using firewood, as it’s the least expensive option available to them. The current cost of a tiny gas cooker prevents them from purchasing one. Although cooking with firewood is unhealthy, they have no other option because they cannot purchase cooking gas. Mrs Udosen is a widow and she sells at the market and also farm to take care of the family.

The family was pleased with the donor. The donor was appreciated by the Udosen family for making their day. They prayed that God would keep the donor under his care, help them achieve great things, and show them his kindness and grace every single day of their existence. The family was happy and smiling when we drove away.
