Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign
. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Ime family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Terry Simmons this is the 283rd bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met the Ime family in Uruk Unam in Akwa Ibom, Nigeria. We met Mrs Ime Friday, she is in her early 30s while her little kid is three years old. Her husband was out for work at the time of our arrival according to Mrs Ime. She was struggling so hard due to her pregnancy which limited the number of times she goes out to make money through her cooking business in order to support her husband who is a commercial motorcyclist. They live in a mudhouse with no electricity or plumbing.

The Imes cook with firewood in one of the rooms in their house. It is the cheapest fuel that they can afford and they do not have money to build a separate kitchen. Mr Ime leaves the house early in the morning to start his job as a commercial motorcyclist and does not return till evening and he has to do this everyday so that he can provide food for his growing family. This family and many others were hit hard by the Covid outbreak and subsequent recession.

Mrs Ime welcomed us with water and fruits, it was a nice gesture from her and we appreciated it knowing she did not have much to give, but still gave freely. When we told her why we visited and what we brought for her, she found it hard to believe it was true. She was very grateful for the bag of Rice and expressed her thanks to the donors and wished us a safe trip home with a smile on her face.
