Bag of Rice Project #103 -A visit to the Udoh family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Udoh family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Melanie Elmore this is the 103rd bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this special special family in Uyo, Nigeria. We felt prompted to stop and enter this compound and the Udoh family was the first family we met. The Udoh family live in a rented one bedroom apartment. We did not meet Mrs Udoh at home but we met her husband and two of their daughters. The Udohs have 3 girls. They live in a compound with a lot of other tenants in similarly sized houses and share the same bathrooms. We were happy that we found this family and at the right time too as Mr Udoh has been facing some health issues which prevents him from going to work.

Mr Udoh has a spinal defect which gives him some health issues from time to time but he still manages to find work so he can take care of his family. His wife also supports the family by selling fruits at a local market and that was why she was not around when we visited. This special family was inspirational to us and radiated happiness when we visited them. The Udohs cook at a corner of their house and uses both kerosene and gas to cook their meal.

We did not know about this family prior to visiting them and we picked them at random and the choice was a perfect one. Because beneath the smiles, Mr Udoh has not had the best of health to go about looking for odd jobs and his wife business has not been good. So school fees, rent and food has not been easy for them and this is why Mr Udoh thanked us a lot after he saw what we brought to him. When we explained how this was made possible, he thanked those that donated and prayed for god to keep blessing. We were happy to see this wonderful family and was touched by their happiness and enthusiasm. We prayed that their other problems will b e solved and we thank God for guiding us to help and relieve one of their problems.
