Bag of Rice Project #104 -A visit to the Udonnah family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Udonnah family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Mike Elmore this is the 104th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this family in a village called Oruk Anam in Akwa Ibom, Nigeria. They were recommended to us by their village head. The Udonnah family were happy to see us. They live in a 2 bedroom house built from clay. Mrs Udonnah is a widow and she has 6 kids and they live in a peaceful and calm village.

I found out that they built this house by hand and they did the same to their kitchen. It looks like a wood/zinck and a netlike material combo that somehow works for them. Mrs Udonnah cooks food in it and carries it around in a truck to sell to people in their village. Her two elder sons who we also met and spoke too also find odd jobs around the area to help out the family.

People in this village have their primary occupation as farming, Mrs Udonnah is among the minority that sells food and she has not been able to sell food because she lacks funds to continue her business. When we met this family and told them why we came and what we brought for them, Mrs Udonnah was besides herself with happiness. She and her family were very grateful for the food and to those who donated it. She started praying and pronouncing blessings for us as we gave them the bag of Rice. This family appreciates and needs this bag of Rice and it will be of benefit to them.
