Bag of Rice Project #105 -A visit to the Amos family

Spread the love

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Amos family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Malora Kilgore this is the 105th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this wonderful family in a village outside of Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, Nigeria. They were recommended to us by their village head. The Amos family live in a two bedroom clay house and have seperate structures for both the kitchen and the rest room. Mrs Amos is a widow and she has 5 kids. This family was a delight for us to meet and we really enjoyed the atmostphere of their village.

The Amos family cook their meals in a seperate structure. Their kitchen is made of some sticks and leaves. They use firewood as a fuel and when it is rainy season then they find a way to cover it so water would not enter it. Mrs Amos sells herbal drinks in the village and she has a small shop where she sells her drinks. She is also a farmer and she plants cassava which is a popular crop in this part of the world.

Meeting the Amos family was a wonderful experience for us. They were happy to see us and really appreciated the gift of the bag of Rice and were so happy to have been choosen to receive it. Mrs Amos kept thanking us over and over and told us that since the death of her husband things have been really hard for their family and this Bag of Rice will really help their family to cope and survive this worldwide pandemic. She also thanked the donors once we explained how the Rice got to her and I really felt happy for this whole family and the joy I saw on their faces.
