Bag of Rice Project #110 -A visit to the Edinma family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Edinma family, their bag of rice was donated to honor the memory of David Dorn this is the 110th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this special family in a village outside of Uyo, Nigeria. They were introduced to us by their village chief who also acted as our translator and guide. The Edinma family lives in a one bedroom mud hut and we could see the frame of the house from the outside. Mrs Edinma is a widow with 3 kids and she was very happy when we came to visit her.

Mrs Edinma has a make shift kitchen that is supported by sticks and a thatch roof. Since she lost her husband Mrs Edinma has been finding it difficult to take care of her children as she is not educated and has no skills. She uses the space in front of her house to plant corn and she sells her produce to feed her kids.

Mrs Edinma could not speak English but even without a translator we could still understand ourselves. It was a delight meeting her and her wonderful kids. When we told her why we came and what we brought for her, she was so happy and expressed her thanks to us and the people who donated in her native tongue, which I could not understand but could feel from her face and body motions. This family do not have much but this bag of Rice was received with so much happiness and joy. We left them knowing that they deserved some happiness in their life and that we definitely left them in better conditions than when we came.
