Bag of rice Project #113 -A visit to the Ezekiel family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Ezekiel family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Betty Pearson this is the 113th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this special family in a village outside of Uyo, Nigeria. They were introduced to us by their local village chief. The Ezekiel’s live in a mud house with the front side of the house plastered in cement and the back of the house left in its raw state. Mrs Patience is a widow and she has two kids, her husband died 2 years ago. She stays with her sister who helps her out in taking care of her kids. Things have been hard for the Ezekiels as they have tried to survive on minimal skills and labour.

The Ezekiels cook in a semi open shed with a thatch roof and cook with firewood which is the cheapest form of fuel in Nigeria. The sisters also harvest Oil Palm and then deshell it and take it to the Oil Mill to turn it into Palm Oil. We met them while they were doing this.

This special family was a delight to meet and talk to. They were happy when we told them why we came and what we brought for them. They were grateful and happy with the bag of Rice and expressed their thanks to the donor who made this possible for them. The Ezekiel family did not own their own farm and could only harvest small Palm seeds to help them survive and this gift will be very beneficial to them.
