Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Peter family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Amber Dubiel this is the 118th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We met the Peter family in a village outside of Uyo, Nigeria. They were introduced to us by the chief of that village. The Peter’s live in a one bedroom mud house. Mrs Peter is a widow, and she has two kids. We only met one of the kids at home as the other has gone to a different city to live with an uncle.

The Pweters cook in a semi open communal kitchen which they share with 3 other families. They cook with firewood as its the cheapest form of fuel available to them. Mrs Peters works in the Palm Oil mill close to their house and we came when she was at work and we took pictures of her working.

Seeing their living conditions, my heart was touched for this family. Mrs Peters is a strong woman and has one of the most backbreaking jobs just to make ends meet for her family. When we met her told her why we came and what we brought for her, she was very happy and grateful for the bag of Rice and she prayed for those who donated the Rice to her. Meeting families during this visits reminds me of how humble and thankful I need to be each day and I’m thankful of this opportunity to meet wonderful families like this family and help put a smile on their faces.
