Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive.
The Following story is about the Ifeanyi family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Christina Scott this is the 12th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
For this particular family we went to Umuahia to meet Mrs Ifeanyi and her family. She took us on a very far journey to get to her house. Because where she lived had no address she had to come and show us the place. They live in a one bedroom house and cook in the open. Mrs. Ifeanyi’s husband left her and abandoned her and their four kids. She does not have a skill and she is managing to take care of the kids by doing menial jobs with her kids for people. Her story amazes me as she knows where her husband is but he does not want to return home or care about his kids so she does it all alone.
She struck me as a woman with a strong will as she still struggles to put her kids through school all by herself. And she continues to remind me of the special strength women have that helps them in overcoming so many of the challenges they face everyday. We gave her the rice and took comfort in the courage she has shown us and our part in helping her give her kids a better meal. And we left her feeling like she gave us more than we could have given her.
