Bag of Rice Project #120 -A visit to the Obioma family #bagofriceproject

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Obioma family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Carrie Peters this is the 120th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this wonderful family in a village called Mboko located in the outskirts of Aba, Nigeria. The Obioma family was recommended to us by their church leader who lived in the area and assisted us in finding families that are in need in that village. In that village we met Mrs Obioma, who just recently lost her husband and was left with 5 children to take care of. We met her in a very somber mood but she still received and accepted our condolences. The Obiomas all live in a tina one room mudhouse but Mrs Obioma told me that the village wants to help them expand the house for her and her kids.

The Obiomas have another mud hut built as a kitchen which they use mainly during rainy season. They cook using firewood which is very cheap in Nigeria. They also have an open construct which they use in bathing, this is also away from their main house. Mrs Obioma is a farmer and they grow what they eat and sell what they can. The death of her husband hit them very hard as he was the breadwinner of the family.

We came to this family in their moment of mourning and brought a ray of sunshine into their lives. The Obioma family was so happy with our visit and our gift to their family. They were very grateful to those who donated and Mrs Obioma kept thanking us over and over again. This family deserves this bag of Rice and I was so happy to have been a part of a service that brought joy into their lives.
