Bag of Rice Project #123 -A visit to the Godwin family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Godwin family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Calvin Grover this is the 123rd bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this family in a village outside of Aba, Nigeria. Mrs Godwin is a neighbor to the Evurus. We noticed her in her hut with her grandkid as we went to visit the Evuru family and decided to visit her. Mrs Godwin and her grandkid live in a one bedroom mud house and they also use a part of it to prepare their meals. Mrs Godwin is a widow and said that her kids have all gone to the city to look for work and she is alone with her grandkid.

Mrs Godwin lives in that small hut and they have a separate construction for their bathroom. She is a farmer and told us that she is getting tired to farm as she used to. And they survive with the money she makes from selling her harvests. It was by chance that we met this family and she was pleasantly surprised that we visited them.

Mrs Godwin was so surprised that we visited them and kept thanking us over and over again. She was very grateful for the bag of Rice and told us that they did not have any food in the house to cook. I am grateful that I listened to the voice that encouraged me to visit with this special family.
