Bag of Rice Project #124 -A visit to the Uche family #bagofriceproject

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Uche family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Tara Swann, Missy Schenkman and Jennifer Domengeaux this is the 124th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this family in a village outside Aba, Nigeria. They were referred to us by their church leader. The Uche family live in a one bedroom apartment and share the apartment utilities with other tenants. The Uches have two kids. It took us a while to find them as we had to rely on people giving us conflicting directions but we eventually found the house.

The Uches cook in one of the rooms behind their house and they share that with other tenants too. Mr Uche is a tailor and has a small shop near their local market. Mrs Uche is a small time farmer and sells the produce gotten from their to help support their family.

It was lovely meeting Mr Uche and his family. They were not expecting our visit at all and Mr Uche said that it was a pleasant surprise seeing us. And when heard why we visited them and what we brought for them, they were very happy. This family has been undergoing a lot challenges and I am happy that we were able with the help of the donors alleviate their challenges. We left them better than we met them.
