Bag of Rice Project #125 -A visit to the Levi family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Levi family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to The Callahan Family this is the 125th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this wonderful family in a village outside Aba, Nigeria. They were recommended to us by their church leader. The Levi’s had a housing problem and we met them living in one of their relatives house. From what they told me, they were living in the north and had to move back to the home when their was some fighting between the Muslims and Christians and they lost their home. So they are starting from the beginning of their lives and trying to get back on their feet again. The Levis have one kid and he went to the city to work and was not home when we visited.

Due to how they escaped from the Northern Nigeria, they did not pick up any of their properties and lost their grocery store that was doing well. The Levis now turn to farming and eat and survive from what they grow and sell. A part of their house is used for their kitchen but because they use firewood to cook, the room is charred black from the wood smoke.

This family lost everything and at such an advanced age have to find a way to survive again. When I heard their story I was excited that this bag of Rice was gong to them as they were in severe need of it. We met only Mr Levi at home as his wife went to the local market and was not at home. And when we told him what we brought for his family he was very happy and grateful that this gift could come at this special time in their lives. I know this family deserves this kindness and I join in prayer that those who donated will feel the love that this gift will bring to this family.
