Bag of Rice Project #137 -A visit to the Chinemerem family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Chinemerem family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Marla Keenum this is the 137th bag rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this family in the same village as the Happiness family. They live in the same compound as them. We did not plan to meet them but I felt a strong impression to visit this family and give them a bag of Rice. Upon visiting this family we discovered that they just lost their breadwinner barely 3 days ago to a motor accident. Mrs Chinemerem has 3 children and lives in a 2 bedroom uncompleted building and they were in a somber mood when we visited them.

The Chinemerem’s do not have a separation room for their kitchen so they built a kinda shed against the side of their house. They use firewood to cook and they have a big barrel to collect rain water. Mrs Chinemerem is a farmer and she farms corn which she then harvests and sells them to afford food for her children. And since they lost their main breadwinner and in the days leading to his days, she has not been to the farm and the family has been struggling to feed.

When we met the Chinemerem family and told them why we came and what we brought for them, Mrs Chinemerem broke down in tears, knelt down and started praying. She said that their family did not have food to eat that day and did not know where they could get money as they had spent their savings on Mr Chinemerem’s medical bills. I was touched a lot by this family and to think that we did not plan to meet them, I am sure a divine hand help guide us to this special family.
