Bag of Rice Project #146 -A visit to the Emanson family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Emanson family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Tracy Ontiveros this is the 146th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this wonderful family in a village outside of Uyo, Nigeria. They were introduced to us by their village chief. The Emanson live in a one bedroom mud hut and have a separate hut for their kitchen. We did not meet Mr and Mrs Emanson at home and only met the kids and their grandmother. After the village head spoke to the grandmother, she was happy to receive us.

We could see that the Emansons cook with firewood in a kitchen opposite their house. The kids told us that their parents were at the market and the village chief confirmed that information for us. Mrs Emanson sells fruits in the market while Mr Emanson pushes a cart for people who buy heavy things in the market.

Even though we did not meet the Emansons at home, we were sure that this family deserved and needed this bag of Rice. Even just looking at the kids one can feel that. The parents are hard workers and have to combine efforts to see that they can take care of their children’s needs and according to the village chief it has become harder for them to do that. Later that evening I was informed that the Emansons saw what we gave to them and went to the chief’s house to thank him. I know that the families to whom we give this bags of Rice pray for God’s blessings on those who donate to them and God will continue to bless them.
