Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Amos family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Missy Schenkman, Shannon Honchul and Lukas Hollcraft this is the 148th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We met this family in a village outside of Uyo, Nigeria. They were introduced to us by their village chief. The Amos family live in a one bedroom mud hut with their utilities outside of the main house. Mr Amos and his wife has five children but on our visit we only met Mr Amos and two of his daughters. His wife went to the market and his other children were currently not staying with them.

The Amos cook with fire wood in the next room as firewood is the cheapest fuel they could get. Mr Amos is a farmer and he is often helped by his kids to grow and harvest corn which they sell to earn money. His wife sells fruits at a local market and that helps to supplement their earnings but this is not enough.

We were very happy to meet this family and they stay so far in the village that we got lost finding their house. But when we found the house and met the Amos family they were very grateful for the gift and from their smiles I could see that it made them very happy. This family deserves a little encouragement and help and I thank the donors for providing exactly what this family needed at this very moment.
