Bag of Rice Project #151 -A visit to the Alfred family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Alfred family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Amber Stalnaker this is the 151st bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this family in a village outside of Uyo, Nigeria. They were referred to us by their village chief. The Alfreds have two kids and they live in rented mud house and share the utilities with the other tenants in the house. We met Mr Alfred and two of his kids at home as his wife was not at home when we came.

The Alfreds cook with firewood in a zinc structure that is built seperately from the house. Mr Alfred is a commercial motor bike rider and his wife cooks and sells to people in the village and that was what she was doing at the time we visited them.

Mr Alfred’s motor bike was broken down so he was at home with the kids. He was very happy when we visited them. This family fully deserves this bag of Rice and was grateful to those who donated it to them. Because of this generous donation Mr Alfred and his family will be able to survive off of this Rice for a while.
