Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Udoh family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Tanya Kaplan this is the 152nd bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We met this family in a village outside of Uyo, Nigeria. They were introduced to us by their village chief. We met Mr Saviour Udoh and his 4 kids at home, his wife had gone to the market and was not home when we visited them. They live in a one bedroom mud house a long distance away from their village square. We had to drive a long way to meet them.

The Udoh’s cook using firewood. They don’t have a separate structure for their kitchen and they cook at the back of their house in the open. When it rains, they bring the firewood inside the house and cook in the house. Mr Udoh climbs palm trees to cut the Palm nuts for the village and that is the job he does. His wife trades in the market and she sells fruits gotten from the back of their house.

It was a very long drive to meet this family and it was worth it. The Udoh family deserves this special gift and were very happy to receive it. They were grateful for these donation and prayed for those who donated it. Families like this has had a very rough time with these Corona virus pandemic and this bag of Rice will mean a lot for their family.
