Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Obediah family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Patty McDaniel, Kaylan Smith, Laura Swank and Leanne Buck this is the 154th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We met this family in Uyo, Nigeria. They were referred to us by their village chief. We met Mrs Obediah at home with her four children. Her husband was not at home when we visited them. They live in a one bedroom mud house and have the rest of their utilities built differently from the house.

The Obediahs cook with firewood on the side of their house. They use firewood because it is the cheapest they can find. Mr Obediah is currently unemployed and he used to work as a security guard at a local school in the village. Mrs Obediah is a farmer and she plants leaves that people use in cooking in this part of the world. She then sells these leaves when they’re matured and the family for now only live off of what she makes.

We were very happy to meet this wonderful family. They welcomed us very well and were not expecting us at all. When we told them why we came to visit them and what we brought for them they were very happy. This family has only been relying on their mothers little garden and were very happy to get this gift of a bag of Rice. I know that this family were really thankful for this bag of Rice and they were very grateful for it.
