Bag of Rice Project #155 -A visit to the Sabbath family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Sabbath family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Woodruff family this is the 155th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this wonderful family in a village outside Uyo, Nigeria. They were referred to us by their village head. The Sabbath family were not at home when we arrived, we met their two sons at home and the grandmother at home. Mr and Mrs Sabbath were not at home and we were told that they were at the local market. The Sabbaths live in a mud hut and they have their utilities built outside the main house.

The Sabbaths do not have a spot for cooking and we were told that they use a kerosene stove that was inside the house. They have structures for their bathroom and toilet built from zinc, sticks and some clothing. Mr Sabbath pushes a handcart for people who buy things they can’t carry in the market, this is one of the hardest work you can do in Nigeria. Mrs Obediahs sells fruits in the same market. Both work very hard to make a living for their two sons.

When I heard what Mr Sabbath does for a living, I was very sure that this family deserves and needs this bag of Rice. It will go a long way in feeding this family for a long time. I am very sure that this family is grateful for this bag of Rice and Mr Sabbaths mother was singing in Ibibio of how happy she was at seeing the Rice. I am happy that we met this family and even happier that we left them better than we met them.
