Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Ikechukwu Emeji family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Carol Chisolm this is the 16th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We traveled to Umuahia to visit this family we heard about from a friend, The Ikechukwu family live in a rented room with the other utilities shared with other people. They cook outside of their house as seen in the picture below. They have been really struggling to feed their 5 kids and some of them are no longer in school. The husband lost his job and since then has been struggling to make ends meet. It has been difficult for the Ikechukwu’s and our visit met them well.
We met only Mrs Amaka and her kids at home, her husband had gone to look for work to do. We met her and the kids eating rice already and Mrs Amaka explained to us that she bought it outside with the little money she had and was very happy to receive us and our gift as it will provide food for their family for a long time. They were so grateful for the rice and it will go to immediately helping out the family. We left them feeling like we really uplifted their family and made their lives a little better.
