Bag of Rice Project #160 -A visit to the Frank family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Frank family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Megan Wells this is the 160th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this wonderful family in a village outside of Uyo, Nigeria. They were introduced to us by their village head who acted as our translator s well. We met Mr Frank, a widower with 5 children. They live in a mud house with no plumbing or electricity. We did not meet all of Mr Frank’s children but we absolutely loved the energy of this family.

The Franks cook in a room behind their house and they cook using firewood which is the cheapest form of cooking they can afford. Mr Frank is a farmer and him and his family all help out in growing their Cassava which when matured is sold in the local market and the remainder converted to Garri which they then eat. This is the only source of income for this family and they struggle to make ends meet and most of Mr Franks kids resort to odd jobs around the village so they can make ends meet. They also have a pen where they rear farm animals but they currently only have one Goat in it.

Even though I could not understand their language but I could read their facial expressions and excitement. They were very happy that we visited them. They were not not expecting us so the bag of Rice came as a surprise to them and they kept thanking those who donated and us for bringing it. I am sure that this bag of Rice will feed this family for a long time to come and that this family will be forever grateful for this miracle especially in an economy like this.
