Bag of Rice Project #172 -A visit to the Nsebong family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Nsebong family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Missy Waite this is the 172nd bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this wonderful family in a village outside Uyo, Nigeria. They were introduced to us by their village chief. The Nsebong family live in a mud hut with their four kids. They have no access to electricity or plumbing in their house and have to walk for miles to get water. The children walk long distance each day with bottles and a water jug to gather water. It took us an hour to get to where they stay because the roads were bad and it was very far from the city.

The Nsebong family cook with firewood in a dark room behind which was made darker from soot. It was a pleasure meeting this family. The area where they stay is very interior but meeting them made up for it. Mr Nsebong was not at home when we arrived because he had gone out to work. His very risky job entails climbing up palm trees and cutting down palm fruits so they can be sold. For reference their is a tall palm tree just behind their house in the picture above.

We were happy to meet the Nsebongs and all their lovely children and it was beautiful receiving smiles from them just because we visited. They were very grateful for the bag of Rice and thanked those who donated it for them. It was a wonderful experience getting to this family and even more worth it to see their smiles and feel their spirits.
