Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Lucky family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Missy Waite this is the 173rd bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We met this family in a village outside of Uyo, Nigeria. They were introduced to us by their village chief. The Luckys live in a mud house with 6 of their kids. Their house has no access to electricity or plumbing and for water they have to walk to the village stream to get it. This water is not clean and they have to boil the water in order to kill the germs.

The Luckys cook with firewood in a semi open kitchen and they store their cooking utensils. This doubles up as a room for the kids at night. Mr Lucky who we did not meet at home, rides a commercial motor bike. His wife is a hair dresser who works from home. Since the pandemic started both have been largely out of work and have been struggling to feed their large family.

It was a pleasure meeting this large family and they were very happy when we visited them. They loved and appreciated the gift and thanked those who donated it for them. With the increase in all food prices, feeding has been hard for most families in Nigeria so this bag of Rice is very much appreciated and will go a long way to helping this family stay safe from hunger.
