Bag of Rice Project #174 -A visit to the Inyang family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Inyang family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to JoAnn Allen this is the 174th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this next family in a village outside Uyo, Nigeria. They were introduce to us by their village chief. The Inyang family live in a mud hut with their 5 children. Their house has no electricity or plumbing and for water they have to fetch from a nearby stream. We did not meet Mrs Inyang at home because she went to the market but we enjoyed meeting the inyang family and their family cat (dolo)

The Inyangs cook with firewood in a semi open kitchen made of sticks and palm fonds. Mr Inyang works all day in the sun gathering white sand with a shovel so that he can sell to people who need it to build houses. It’s back breaking work and on most days nobody buys his sands and he still has to pay to the local authorities for the space he uses. His wife is currently unemployed and stays at home with the kids.

We had so much fun interacting with this family. They were not expecting us and were genuinely surprised by our visit. They were very happy and grateful for the gift and thanked those who donated to them. Given the economy of Nigeria at this moment Rice has soared in price and most people can not afford it and this bag of Rice will feed this family for a long time.
