Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Thompson family, their bag of rice was Donated in loving memory of Sarah Mooreland this is the 177th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We met the Thompson family in a village outside Uyo, Nigeria. They were introduced to us by their village chief. The Thompsons live in a mud house with no electricity and plumbing. They get their water from a nearby stream or collect rainwater and store in buckets. The Thompsons have 3 kids but we only met their last kid at home.

The Thompsons built a shed of sticks and palm fonds and they cook with firewood which is the cheapest option they can find. Mr Thompson had an accident that affected his right leg so he could not walk properly and lost his job as a result. His wife is a farmer and sells the crops they grow on their farm to bring money to the family. It has not been easy for them as the lockdown has made it hard for them to sell their crops.

It was a delight meeting this family, they were very welcoming of us. They have had rough times during this lockdown and our visit was very appreciated by them. They were happy to meet us and were thankful of those who donated the bag of Rice to them. The price of food commodities like Rice keeps increasing and families like this find it very hard to buy it, so they appreciate this bags of Rice and will be beneficial to them for a long while.
