Bag of Rice Project #18 -A visit to the Ugo Ehia family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Ugo Ehia, their bag of rice was donated thanks to an anonymous donor this is the 18th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this family in Ebonyi state as well, they’re Ugo Ehia family. They live in a house that is falling apart. We met Mrs Ugo Ehia an 8o year old widow with her daughter and her 4 kids. The daughter’s husband was not at home when he came to the house but upon our inquiry we found out that he is a mason and helps build houses. Because he is not professionally skilled he has a difficult time finding jobs and that was why he and his family relocated to his mother in law’s house.

They cook outside in the a zinc structure away from their house. Mrs Ugo has severe arthritis and she finds it hard to move around and does not walk for long distances. Her daughter Mrs Enya Glory does not have a job and stays at home to take care of her kids and her mother.

The Kitchen

The happiness on their faces when we brought the rice for them made me really happy. They were so grateful to for the food. I saw the difference the food will make in their lives and even if it won’t solve all their all their problems but we left knowing that we have helped them to overcome one of their problems.
