Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Dove family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to an anonymous donor this is the 182nd bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We met this next family in a village outside of Uyo, Nigeria. They were referred to us by their village chief. Mrs Dove is a widow and she has seven children but we only met three of the children at home. They live in a one bedroom mud house that has no electricity or plumbing and for water they fetch from a stream nearby or collect rainwater.

The Dove family cook in a semi open kitchen constructed with sticks and zinc. They use firewood as we call them here because it is the cheapest they can afford. Mrs Dove is a farmer and all her children help her in farming their land. They grow Cassava and have hard problems selling it because of the lockdown and low income of people around them. This family was fun to meet and Mrs Dove had a very funny personality.

Mrs Dove was highly animated and happy with our visit. We had been to that village before but had not made it to the area where she stays so she already knew who we were and was ecstatic with joy. She was very grateful to those who donated the much needed bag of Rice to her family and prayed that God bless them. This bag of Rice is really appreciated to these families during this lockdown and I know how much of a good difference it will make in their lives.
