Bag of Rice Project #184 -A visit to the Jimbo family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Jimbo family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to an anonymous donor this is the 184th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We visited this special family barely a week after the death of Mr Jimbo so this was a sober visit. I heard about this family as we were doing deliveries and decided to visit them. The Jimbo family currently live with Mr Jimbos mother in a village outside Uyo, Nigeria. They live in a one bedroom mud hut and recently moved their from the city after Mr Jimbo lost his job and then had a fatal motor accident a week before we arrived. Mrs Jimbo has 3 kids and will struggle to take care of them.

The Jimbos cook in a semi open kitchen and use firewood to cook. This is because it is the cheapest they can afford. Mr Jimbos mother is a farmer and so far has been the one providing for the family. Mrs Jimbo is currently unemployed. We did not ask so much questions because the family were currently in mourning but this was a much needed visit.

We were eager to visit this family and they were very grateful for the bag of Rice given to them. tho dark times have befallen the family, our visit did bring some joy in the family. They were grateful to those who donated the bag of Rice and I know that it will last them for a while especially with the condition at hand.
