Bag of Rice Project #189 -A visit to the Moses family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Moses family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Eric Houdek this is the 189th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this wonderful family in a village outside of Uyo, Nigeria. They were introduced to us by their village chief who acted as our guide. Mrs Moses is a widow and she has 7 kids. They live in a 1 bedroom mud house which has no electricity or plumbing. For water they either collect rainwater or fetch from a local stream.

The Moses family cook in a room in their house and they use firewood to cook because it is the cheapest that they can afford. Mrs Moses since losing her husband had to turn to farming to earn money to take care of her kids. Her children help her grow cassava and sell it when its matured in local markets but since the cassavas are not yet matured she works at a local oil mill to get money to take care of her kids.

This family were very happy to meet us and were very grateful for the bag of Rice. They thanked those who donated and prayed for their continued well being. Rice has become a very important commodity in Nigeria since the prices went up and families are extra happy to have one because it would last for their families and take care of them during this economic downturn.
