Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.
The Following story is about the Idume family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Paulette Pekera, Mary Larson, Jane Bowers this is the 19th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We met this wonderful family on our Ebonyi visit. The Idume family live on a house that is built out of mud and sticks and cement. They’re a family of 5 kids but most of the kids were not at home as at when we came around.
The family lives in abject conditions as shown by the state of their kitchen below. When I asked Mr Idume about his kids, he told me that he had sent all but one of them to go and work for people as servants. Mr Idume is a farmer and his wife Mrs Rose is not employed. They also live with Mr Idume’s grandmother who they take care of. She is 90 years old and partially blind. She insisted on touch us to bless us when we came.
When we spoke to the Idumes and told them of the purpose of our coming, they were very happy and expressed their thanks to us. I was not able to take the picture but the old woman of the house who was blind held my hands for 10 minutes while she was blessing it and when we told her we need to take pictures she was upset that we did not tell her on time so she could bath…lols she must have been a diva back in her days. Everyone was happy as we brought them their bag of rice and we felt happy as we left that they were glad to receive our help.
