Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Besi family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Britani Shea this is the 190th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We met this wonderful family in a village in the southern part of Nigeria. They were introduced to us by their village chief whom we had to meet before we entered the village. He recommended the Besi family to us and they were very interesting to meet. Mrs Besi is a widow, she and her 4 kids live in a one bedroom mudhouse that has no electricity or plumbing. This village also has a problem with water and to get water they have to fetch from their local stream or collect rain water.
They do not have a room for their kitchen and they cook just against the wall of their house with an iron thingee that supports their pots and they use firewood to generate fire. Only people who are very poor use firewood and this family can not afford anything more expensive than firewood. Mrs Besi is a farmer and she grows cassava which she then sells to take care of her families needs. This source of income is barely enough for them to eat well and the village chief has been supportive of this family and that has been how they have been surviving.
Their Kitchen
Since her husbands death last year, Mrs besi came back home to stay with her mother and this family has been finding ways to survive. Our visit brought smiles to their faces and hearts. They were very grateful to those who donated the bag of Rice for their family and expressed their thanks. Hearing their story was inspiring to me and I hope Mrs Besi’s kids grow to realize the sacrifices their mom made for them to survive.
