Bag of Rice Project #193 -A visit to the Aniema family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Aniema family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Megan Wells this is the 193rd bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this wonderful family in a village in the southern part of Nigeria. They were introduced to us by their village chief whom we had to meet before we entered the village. He recommended the Aniema family to us. Mrs Aniema is a widow and her and 4 of her kids all live in a one bedroom mudhouse with no electricity or plumbing. They have to either fetch water from a stream or collect rainwater.

The Aniemas cook in a semi open kitchen. They use firewood because it is the cheapest form of fuel that they can afford. Mrs Aniema is a farmer and she grows cassava. Since most of her kids are grown they also have things they do to bring money to the house. Some of her kids help her in farming while the two kids we did not meet were learning a skill. Mrs Aniema also has a grandson from her only daughter although she is not married yet.

We were very meeting this family. They were not expecting us so the bag of Rice came as a pleasant surprise. They were very glad to meet us and expressed their thanks to those who donated this bag of Rice to them.
