Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Nkana family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Molly Butsch , Barb Przybylski, Anonymous donation and Laura Picone this is the 200th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We met this wonderful family in a village in the southern part of Nigeria. They were introduced to us by their village chief whom we had to meet before we entered the village. We met the Nkana family through the Sundays, they’re neighbors. Mrs Nkana is a widow, she and her 5 kids and 3 grandchildren live in a one bedroom mud house that has no electricity or plumbing. This village also has a problem with water and to get water they have to fetch from their local stream or collect rain water.

The Nkanas cook in a room at the back of their house. They use firewood which apart from darkening the pots with soot is the cheapest they can afford. Mrs Ruth Nkana is a farmer but this days she does very little work in the farms cos of her bad back. Her 2 sons do the bulk of the farming and they survive off of what they grow or sell.

We loved our visit to both the Sunday and the Nkana’s compound. It was a wonderful experience with the children and the people who lived their. The Nkanas were very happy we visited them and loved the bag of Rice we gave them. They were grateful to those who donated it for their family. It will really help them and we were happy to see the smiles of this family as we left them.
