Bag of Rice Project #204 -A visit to the Benson family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Benson family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Janet Williams this is the 204th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this wonderful family in a village in the southern part of Nigeria. They were introduced to us by their village chief whom we had to meet before we entered the village. He recommended the Benson family to us and they were very interesting to meet. Mrs Benson is a widow, she and her 2 kids live in a one bedroom mudhouse that has no electricity or plumbing. This village also has a problem with water and to get water they have to fetch from their local stream which is a long walk or collect rain water.

The Bensons cook at the back of their house with fire wood. Its not a proper kitchen and they don’t have money to build a proper one. Mrs Benson cooks a food called Banga and carries it around the village in a cart every morning. She only sells in the morning and that is the only thing she has to get money and feed her kids.

The Bensons were happy to meet us. They have seen us visit other families in the village and were very happy to receive their bag of Rice. They were thankful to those who donated to their family an prayed for continued blessings for them and their families.
